DOR MAMALIA

Coreographer

Dor Mamalia is a world renown and celebrated dancer who won the Israeli Ministry of Culture prize for “Best Cast Performance” for two consecutive years in 2013 and 2014. He was also the receiver of the “Audience Award” at the prestigious Copenhagen International Choreography Competition in 2014; and in 2006, he was the winner of the ZOA scholarship for young artists.

Dor started his dance training at The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company Workshop Institute in Ga’aton, Israel and in July 2004, he joined the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company 2 under the direction of Rami Be’er. In 2006, he worked with the Austrian choreographer, Karl Alfred Schreiner, in “Blame It on Gavrilo”. Later on in 2007, Dor joined Fresco Dance Company directed by Yoram Karmi. In August 2010, he began working with “Theproject”, dancing pieces by William Forsythe, Jacopo Godani, Emanuel Gat, Marco Goecke, Yoram Karmi and Idan Sharabi. At the end of 2011, he participated in a co-production between Suzanne Dellal Centre and choreographer, Barak Marshell. Later in 2011 and early 2012, Dor participated in a project led by Saar Magal in collaboration with Munich Opera House in Germany. When he returned to Israel, Dor was invited to join Vertigo Dance Company with choreographer Noa Wertheim. In September 2013, he performed a solo piece entitled, “Dive” choreographed by Keren Rosenberg which premiered in the critically acclaimed Fringe Festival Dublin in Ireland and was later performed again in Tel-Aviv. At the end of 2013, Dor joined Idan Sharabi & Dancers. During his three years with Idan Sharabi & Dancers, he performed across the world, taught workshops based on Sharabi’s material and staged his creations in many reputable dance companies such as the Nederlands Dans Theatre 2.

In August 2016, Dor joined the Tanz Luzerner Theatre ensemble under the direction of Kathleen McNurney. During his two seasons with the company he had the opportunity to perform works by Georg Reischl, Bryan Arias, Po-Cheng Tsai, and many more. In November 2016, he premiered his solo creation, “I Choose You” at the Diana Vishneva Gala Concert in the Stanislvasky Theatre, Moscow. He continued performing his solo at major festivals including the Holland Dance Festival Gala.

Since 2016, Dor Mamalia has been commissioned to create works for schools and festivals around the world. In May 2018, he premiered his new duet piece in collaboration with dancer and choreographer, Dariusz Nowak, entitled, “into me, see”. The piece was commissioned to open the first Kibbutzurich Festival followed by performances in Amsterdam’s Open Pavilion in Vondelpark and at Korzo Production House in Den Hague, S P L I T events in Paris, Gdansk Festival in Poland, OpenLook Festival in St.Petersburg Russia and many more. He is simultaneously co-creating a piece with Dariusz for the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste’s third year Bachelor program and as well as for the 3rd year students of the Bachelor in Dance Program at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz Austria.
